Trademark Handbook – EU-Funded IPR Awareness Project

Designing a Comprehensive Guide to Trademarks for Public Education.

Role

Lead Designer – Editorial Design & Visual Communication

Industry

Legal / Intellectual Property / Public Education

Duration

3 years

Content Strategy and Visual Direction

As part of a long-term EU-funded initiative on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), I led the design of a dedicated Handbook on Trademarks—a key publication aimed at raising awareness and understanding of trademark protection among creators, entrepreneurs, and the general public.

Working closely with legal experts and content developers, I crafted a visual and editorial system that made trademark law approachable and engaging. The handbook was structured to guide readers through the fundamentals of trademarks, including definitions, registration processes, enforcement mechanisms, and real-world case studies. Visual clarity was central: I used iconography, diagrams, and modular layouts to break down complex legal concepts into digestible sections.

Design Execution and Public Impact

The handbook was produced in both print and digital formats, supporting workshops, online campaigns, and educational events across multiple regions. I designed infographics to explain key terms like “distinctiveness,” “likelihood of confusion,” and “territorial scope,” while also incorporating visual examples of registered trademarks and common misuse scenarios.

The final product served as a practical tool for individuals and businesses seeking to understand how trademarks work and how to protect their brand identity. It was distributed widely and translated into multiple languages, becoming a cornerstone resource within the broader IPR awareness campaign

Reflection

Designing the Trademark Handbook was a deeply rewarding experience. It challenged me to translate legal precision into visual clarity—bridging the gap between institutional language and everyday understanding. Over three years, I saw how thoughtful design could empower people to take ownership of their creative work and navigate legal systems with confidence. This project reaffirmed my belief that design isn’t just decoration—it’s a form of public service.
